What is the work of a data scientist ??

Please don't write a formal explanation like they collect data , clean data etc etc.
What kind of real problems they solve ?
How they deal them ?
If one want to be data scientist , what will be the roadmap??
Just curious to know , how to start ,what to learn , how to solve the problems ??
