The use of VBA is mainly in conjunction with the microsoft office products. you can use it to automate tasks in a single programm like excel, or to make communication between 2 or more ms apps like modifying an excel sheet and than sending this by using outlook.
but it is also possible to make own apps using ui components, storing data in ms access or sql servers and so on.
