Explanation of list and dictionary

please ah need an explanation of dictionary and list ... I don't seem to always get it

A dictionary is a collection of pairs. The first element of every pair is called "key", and the second element of the pair is the "value" associated to the key. There can be no duplicate keys.
A list is just a collection of values, unordered, and eventually with duplicates.
