What is exactly Linux operating system?

I am just curious about this since i found it at many programming meme.😂 What is the difference between Linux and windows ?

Linux is mainly for programmers, even though other people can use it.
A lot of famous hacking tools are only supported in linux.

Windows is a client friendly system, whereas linux is a developer friendly system.

Windows there are visual stuff you can do like clicking buttons, entering password, but in linux 80% is typing. You will have to type in commands, and it will execute it .

The huge difference is:
Windows has a limit, it doesn't allow you to do everything.
Linux allows u to get into the system and dig up stuff.

You dont want to just learn Linux, it's just the OS, i think you want to learn bash, the scripting language that runs in linux terminals. Learn about the unix file structure, then just search up bash tutorials

Steve Sajeev and Sanjyot21 Linux is not “For developers” and is not “less user friendly.” It is just an operating system. (though quite a bit better than windows.) Some distros are good for developing (almost all, actaully), and some (a good example is Ubuntu), are actually very user friendly. But yeah I agree you can customize it a lot more, its good for hacking, free, and is a lot more typing than mouse using.

Ok guys and girls here a bit of history. At the beginning you had the choice between MS-DOS and the Apple operating system. They where actually single system OS then UNIX came out that gave us connection between multiple computers. But UNIX wasn't free so a bunch of guys developed the LINUX OS that is nothing more than a kind of copy of the UNIX OS that is Open Source and expansion friendly and free.

Main basic difference between linux and windows is that windows is much user friendly when compared to linux.
Linux allows you to customize everything of your system while windows gives you less ability to do so.
In linux you have access to each and every system file while windows hides it so no one can misuse or use it without their permission.
Linux is available for free anywhere and you don't have to purchase any license to use it also if you are good enough you can modify it..

Radin Misbah I found that the best way to learn linux is to just use it. I literally has to use linux on my PC at one point, and now I love it. I still dont think I am a true master of Linux, but I still think it is way better than windows. You can get it on their websites. I would recommend Ubuntu, which you can get at ubuntu.com.

Linux is all about choice.

Saying that Linux is not user-friendly isn't true nor false : it depends. You can choose to install user-friendly distributions (Mint, Ubuntu) or less friendly distributions (Arch).
Thus, Linux is not only for programmers.

Most of non-advanced users will never need to use the terminal, just like on windows. It depends on how you use it.

Moreover, some distributions allows you to configure everything, so that you can choose what's you're more comfortable with.

Linux is an operating system made by Linus Torvalds its Unix based similar to MacOs or Free/Open BSD. Unlike Windows, Linux is much more focused on privacy, stability, and it's much easier for users to change whatever they want about the system. However, it lacks in one area that area being that it isn't very user-friendly and if you coming from windows it can be a pain to work with. It also has a lot less software than windows or mac since it only has about 1% of the market share on computers. Here is my list of pros and cons for Linux:

Pro: There are many different distros of Linux since Linux is free and open-source software, some distros are light and fast, some are easy to use, some are made for hacking, and some are made for gaming, some are made for working.

Pro: Security, most people don't develop viruses for Linux since they expect Linux users to be tech-savvy enough to know how to avoid them.

Pro: User changeability: You can change a Linux distro to your heart's content, don't like the way it looks? Just install a new Desktop environment. Don't like the stock apps? Just uninstall them. Want to literally get rid of any graphical interface and just use Linux with a terminal? Well, you can do that.

Con: Lack of software. Even with projects like Wine, Proton, Anbox, and many others Linux still lacks many pieces of software that are crucial to some people.

Con: Lack of user-friendliness: Linux is not very friendly to new users and can take a while to get used to, if you come from windows the first thing you will notice is the terminal, if your an old user the terminal is your greatest friend, and if you're a new user, your worst enemy.
