If you have any computer science courses in your college program, find out the first language taught there. Learning whatever that is should give you the biggest head start.

If you're not taking any courses that require programming, what are you studying?

The one that they teach you at collage.

In India that is mostly C/C++ in first year and JAVA in second and third.

You can also go for any other you want (for that have alook at I Am AJ ! 's code ) depending on the project you are building or want to build.

But the key rule is to have a good hold of one or two and have some basic knowledge of others.
