How to explain i am programmer not computer repair man.

how much stupid people think programmer are phone technician, computer hardware repairer, network tech, printer etc.. if someone ask to check their phone, i said i can't. they said your are IT people. How can i explain like this stupid people?

just say a programmer is like surgeon.
not dentist, pediatrician, vet, internist, or rontgent.

You also in turn ask them same thing like if they are mechanical engineer ask them to repair a diesel engine or if they are civil engineer then to build a design for a house or if they say they are electrical engineer ask them to construct an entirely new electric generator.
