There are many CSS tutorials but I don't know of any focusing on transitions specifically. Transitions in CSS are short animations that blend any CSS properties from 1 state to a final state in a time interval that you indicate in CSS.

You can't transition some CSS properties like font-family, content... You can express the desire to transition any property but it just won't do anything for properties that don't have real values. Real numbers can smoothly can be averaged together with arbitrary ratios. A group of 4 year numbers such as border-width breaking down to top, left, bottom, right can be transitioned. font-family doesn't work because you can't go half-way between Arial and Times New Roman. You can't transition content because there is nothing half-way between 'Hello world' and 'yo'.

You can apply transitions to anything with real-numeric values, though. Colours can be blended at various ratios between them. For example, white and black mixed together half way is gray.
