Having degree:
Help you bring resume brighter, get more calls for interviews.. So it takes you to in front of interviewers. Next all you need is to show your Skills...

In my opinion, Degrees are things of the past. They are only for bragging rights. You can have a degree but it wont mean anything if you can't back it up with your skills. I remember studying IT at a university. I was put in a team of 5 for final grade. I was leading the team and delegating the work. And one slacker only showed up on the last day and didn't provide much of anything I had to complete the rest. But I allowed him to add his name to the assignment, because each person counted towards the final grade. We made 100% on the assignment. He went on to get his degree. But in my eyes his degree didn't amount to anything.

Truthfully with opinions aside. Obtaining a college degree will almost always improve your career opportunities.

<DD> "Mama Always Said, Life Was Like a Box of Chocolates. You Never Know What You're Gonna Get." - Forest Gump: From my experiences that is very true. So you have to strive to do your best at everything. My wife has no degree but makes more at her current job than her coworkers that have degree. She is about to get a raise. I have an associates degree in IT. But I was able to retire at the age of 27. Having a degree does open the door for many opportunity's but it is still up to you to make things happen.

Nifemi Omidiran, why not do both? It can't hurt to have both degrees and skills. My experience with university is that it has taught me how to communicate and write technically. I have learned how to approach big companies and bosses in a professional manner, make proposals which are most likely to be accepted, and how to manage people. Then in the field of IT, I have picked up the actual skills I need to put together and troubleshoot a network, and the customer service experience needed. Some jobs look at degree, while others look at skills. If you have both, you can get any job. So, buckle down and do both. You won't be sorry.

The importance of a formal degree also depends on the country and the job in which you want to work.

I think you're doing it the wrong way. Why would you ask perfect strangers about yourself? Cause if you think about it, that's what you're doing. Ask them about themselves. See varieties, and take what applies to you.
Never take people seriously with these things. They may all be sincere, but there might always be more to it than they know, times might change, you might change, the advances and resources and enthusiasm might change. See some of the adjectives used in these responses and ask yourself what it means to take them for their word, when you are the one who knows what, say, a "real job" means to you. No one knows you and your circumstances better than you do.
The only thing the whole human species will agree on is probably the feeling that doing what you have no capability to like is torture.
Sorry for the commanding language, it just cuts to the chase.
But could you please have a look at the AMA section of the app, Kuba SiekierzyÅski, for example?
All the best.

having a degree is useless if you don't have skills?..
