how "xp" is defined in a challenge?

xp is varied in a topic's challenge with different persons. why it happen?

there have some algorithm that mantain it. I just want to know this mechanism.

I think its like this.

If I win against a user with higher level I gain higher amount of XP.
If I lose against a user with higher level I lose lower amount of XP
But
If I win against a user with lower level I gain lower amount of XP.
If I lose against a user with lower level I lose higher amount of XP.
I don't know about same level

Don't know if this is correct or wrong. But I think this is the way
