Java & JavaScript are 2 different programming languages, Java runs on a VM which runs on the OS & can be used for GUI, Web, e. t. c

JavaScript started life inside a VM that runs in a browser, these days it can do pretty much anything too like server side code, embedded but it started and is predominantly used in a browser
