I taught myself programming decades ago and it changed my life forever. At first it felt like I didn't have any useful skills, but as I kept practicing and kept learning, it opened up opportunities for me. When I got my first programming job, they thought I was bluffing when I said I could code. But it turned out I was actually better than they were and quickly became team lead.

When you look at programming, you quickly realize there is so much to learn and how will you ever know it all. The answer is, you will not. No one does. You will learn what you need to learn and progress one step at a time. You will get better and better. There will always be people that know more about a topic than you. Don't let that stop you. You are on a journey. One step at a time. Every step making you just a little bit smarter. Before you know it, you've accomplished something great.

I went from just being able to print my name on a screen to eventually creating a software product that transformed an entire industry. Of course thousands of other programmers could have made that same accomplishment. I just happened to be in the right place for that opportunity. How did I get into that "right place", I just kept building my skills and writing code.

The key is to just keep going. Always learning. Always growing. I am now retired and I still study programming languages and technologies. The journey never ends.
