C++ is the move. Unreal runs on it, and if you're making your own engine, you’ll need that power. It’s kinda tough, but solid if you're serious.

If you're thinking about using Unity, definitely go with C#. It's super beginner-friendly and works perfectly with the Unity Engine, which is great for both 2D and 3D games. You can get stuff up and running really fast, and there are tons of tutorials and tools out there. It’s actually the main reason a lot of people start game dev with Unity. But if you’re going for Unreal or even building your own engine, C++ is the way to go. Unreal Engine is built in C++, and while it’s a bit tougher to learn, it gives you a lot more control and performance – which is super important for something like a next-gen FPS.

at a time, I was learning game development until I switched lane to software arch and dev. If you want to do game development, you need to learn how to use a game engine... there are many out there but the popular and widely used ones are unity and unreal these engines help you to speed up your game development process... instead of coding the whole game out, these engines/ game editors have UI friendly logic tools you can use for map rendering, shaders, visual game logic control etc. It is unwise to build your own game engine from scratch unless you own an enterprise or something and you need your own game engine based on specific preferences... This is what some big game companies like EA do...they didn't use unity or unreal engine. So to be productive... just stick to the engines already available...they are really powerful, life made simple. Also note : If you use unreal.. you're going to be using c++ and if you're using unity, c#.. there are many internet contents to help you get started .

Not sure if sololearn have a game development course, i recommend you mastering c languages they are the core path to game development. But you can also learn on several open sources you can find on the Internet. Wish you good luck.

Real game dev - Unreal Engine with C/C++ and Lua, or Unity + C# if you want to go that route, but be sure to look into each game engine first and the tradeoffs between them. Simple game dev - Godot (Go), HTML/CSS/JS (RPG Maker, Phaser, etc). And it is possible to use JS with Unreal, it's just not a great idea because it's JS. Unity also supported JS previously, but it looks like they've phased that out over time and now it's only partially supported.
