The ending slash ( / ) is not valid with html5 ( even if supported, thanks to html permissivity ^^ )

Anyway, <hr> provide a semantical data separator: it's actually styled as an Horizontal Line, because it was the historical meaning, but since html5 semantical orientation, its behavior was redefined, so you cannot be sure that it still will be same styled in the future ;)

However, you can style any container with css border-top and or border-bottom properties...
