Is the HTML taught here out of date as compared to HTML5?

Question

I do know a little HTML5 and my understanding is that, in this latest iteration, formatting should be done entirely in CSS. But as I move through the lessons I am see formatting taking place in the HTML tags.

Respectfully, because I believe these apps ARE valuable, Is this coursework a little outdated?
