if you take several points with known location you can calculate surface area and perimeter. This is useful in many cases.

Wow... Heard today about providing content to users dependend on the... WEATHER around! :-)) If it's hot then ads banners could show you a glass of cold drink, and if it's cold you'll see a cup of coffee there or may be a fireplace... :-) I would suggest placing ads of travels to warm places when it's rainy outside :-)
