the best is the HTML5 itself.

before to set the charset we had to write a long long line of code, difficult to memorize.

now we just do <meta charset="utf-8">

now we have new inputs (email, color, number...) which makes A LOT easier to work with those data.

semantic tags (em, aside, footer..) were implemented on HTML5, and this makes the search engines find our websites easier if we construct our pages with semantic tags.

audio/video tags came to make it easier for us when displaying that sort of media.

the canvas tag allows us to work with JS for creating animations or even games directly on your page.

i think that's more than enough for understanding the main benefits of HTML5 :D
