if you want to find out some implementation detail about operation system, linux or minix would be the best choice...and they are both written in C

Its like Gregor said, if you really know your way around all other straight logic programming languages it will go very fast and easy. The only major thing that changes are mostly syntaxis because of copyright infringement that's the only major reason. All the rest is almost the same with some small extras that older languages don't have. Just look at JAVA. if you convert a C++ code into JAVA your program will be completely platform independent to run, Just write once use many times. But C and C++ should be a must for everyone to learn.
