If you just want to write games; I suggest Unreal Engine 4, which is a AAA quality game engine that is relatively easy to get into. There is also Amazon Lumberyard, version 1.7.0.0 has just been released, and it might be slightly more difficult to get into but s also very very good and free to develop in.
