It's a general purpose programming language. The language is extremely versatile. It's used within web development, Data analysis, machine learning, general scripting for repetitive task, Academia and plenty of other areas. There's a module for anything honestly. In the end it boils down to what you want to do and more than likely you can use Python for it.
