Don't forget to put on sunscreen when you go outside. Only you can prevent forest fires. Just say no to drugs. You wasn't born in a barn, close the door. Look both ways before you cross the street. ... ...Okay, seriously, my first bit of advice is to have patience and don't give up. It's not an easy path to take, which is why many people don't take it. It's going to be difficult, you're not going to understand everything immediately, and it's going to take a lot of time to get good at it. However, if you stick it out, and do whatever you can to progress, it's well worth the journey to get there. Think of it like musical instruments; at first it sounds bad, but if you keep practicing/learning, you become a great musician and your work will be enjoyed by many. Keep reading and practicing. Even if you don't understand it the first time, keep reading through it. Go back and read again later; take note of what you still don't understand. Research what you don't understand. Practice it. Rinse & repeat. Hope that helps.

Practice, I find that if you make programs using what you've learned it helps the concepts stick.
