PHP could be good if you want a focus on web, alongside JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Otherwise, I'd recommend Python for a beginner language. Java if you want to make apps.

php is needed for a lot of other programming... especially opensource stuff web coding for stores its really important.... stuff like magento (free ecommerce) its vital. i wouldnt say python is good for beginners because it can confuse you if you plan to learn more like c++... basic java works well for simple tasks but it does get complicated later on.... php, c++, or for basic websites that you can later build on html or css (i downloaded this app to see if it would help a friend im tutoring... ive been coding, sloppy code but valid, for 12 years now freelancing and know all the languages i mentioned pretty well)

try out the languages and test the water. Pick the one that you think that you would enjoy the most AND___(The and is very very important) be well suited to what you want to use it for.
