can I install the jdk and run it on my chromebook? Chrome OS?

Unfortunately, since the Chromebook is almost entirely cloud based, it's impossible to install the Java JDK and the appropriate programming tools that go along with it.
But alas! All hope is not lost! There are many tools that already exist that allow you to program in the Java programming language directly from your ChromeOS Browser! Fantastic, right? See this link below to find the right online IDE for you!

Last but not least, if you plan on becoming a more serious programmer, I would suggest investing in a better computer. Laptops are great for programming because they give you the option to program when and wherever you want, but some may prefer getting a Desktop. Either way, there's no need to dish out thousands of dollars. I have a friend who programs on a $200 HP Laptop, so any thing's possible ;)
