if you know another programming language it is helpful but you don't need to know anything bcoz if you start Java from the bottom you can get to the top no doubt , the thing is every pro Lang share sth
-sequence(code is executed line by line)
-condition( if ,else if , else )
-repetition(loops ... for , while , do while )

this is what you get used to( not everything ) basically from knowing one language and surely it will make it easier . and if you don't know this is what you must know !! hope my answer make some sense !!
