Doubt about MySQL

I was coding in MySQL and I get some errors using double quotes... Why I have to use single quote instead double quotes?

Word processors often corrupt the characters into left- and right- versions. They won't work, and also come from copy-pastes from websites, especially when authors use Apple design (vs web development) tools.

Other causes include mismatched pairs, needing to escape them, database rules (stored procedures), etc.

To be more specific, the error message and a small representative query would help.
