GDI-Paint - Why does it stop working?

I have this GDI Paint program (nothing new for now) : https://github.com/kinshuk-h/GDI-Paint I tried drawing on the screen and it works. The size is also changing when I press the '+' key and the color is alterable via the Ctrl+B and Ctrl+F keys (Background and Foreground respectively). But when I continue drawing for more than 5 minutes, a strange thing happens. The pen's size and color, no matter what it was, automatically resets to default. The same happens to the eraser, but it becomes black instead of default white. Plus, I am then no longer able to change the size or colors, and even the close, minimize and restore buttons stop working. The menu becomes non-accessible, and to end the program, I have to use the task manager. I am still not able to find out why this happens. Please help!
