Passed Oracle's Java Programmer I (OCA) Exam With 84%

Took me 4 months to prepare, used the study guide book by Jeane Boyarsky & Scott Selikoff. This book costs £50 UK / $71.99 CA / $59.99 US. I live in UK, got it on sale for about £30.Also,I did several practice tests on Enthuware which is a program with mock exams. The exam has 70 questions and you get 150 mins. You need 65% to pass. I had to drive 50 miles to the exam centre which is not a lot but when you have an exam, the traffic can be a bit stressful. Finished in just under 2 hours. Any questions? :-)

In order to pass, you really need to know a lot of theory and pay attention to small details. The exam creators try to catch you out all the time, the questions are tricky and ambiguous at times. The exam covers the following topics: - Java Basics - Working With Java Data Types - ‎Using Operators and Decision Constructs - ‎Creating and Using Arrays - ‎Using Loop Constructs - ‎Working with Methods and Encapsulation - ‎Working with Inheritance - ‎Handling Exceptions - ‎Working with Selected classes from the Java API (String, StringBuilder, ArrayList, LocalDate, LocalTime, LocalDateTime)

And a few more details: I went through the book twice and did a few Enthuware practice tests. Enthuware is a program with several practice tests which tend to be harder than the real exam. It was only about £8. Here's what I scored in these mock exams: - Assessment test: 68% - ‎Test 1: 64% - ‎Test 2: 80% - ‎Test 3: 64% - ‎Test 4: 65% - ‎Test 5: 54% - ‎Last test, day before exam: 77%

@A Penguin Yes you can, there are no requirements. You just need to pay the exam fee and you're good to go.

I am reading 'Concepts of programming languages' by Sebesta. It is better than porno, very sexy! 😉 Highly recommended. It is precisely about 'all languages'.

Congrats. My question : can you apply for oracle certification without/pending BS degree?

@A Penguin I don't think there are any. There are a few with like 10 questions only. The book mentioned above comes with 3 mock exams and 1 assessment test. In addition, after each chapter, there is a small test that covers all the concepts you've learned from that chapter.
