Is switching to Kotlin in Android worth the while?

Is really Kotlin better than Java for Android?
At Google I/O 2017, Google launched Kotlin as an android language.

As prospects for Kotlin are pretty high, is converting a current project to Kotlin considered a wise action? Or just future projects?

Kotlin can read compiled Java and vice versa. You can use them in the same project. It certainly doesn't make sense to rewrite your code just because.
