I was going to try to make an open source app about Cancer, any tactics or strategies for me? Advice?

I'm hoping to have to find a database for holding information about Cancer, but I'm still learning programming. I am not sure how to pull up info like RAM may access data. First, I need the space. Then, I need to be able to access it. hopefully if I make it open source, people can use it to cure cancer. I'm trying to cure Cancer for free, for the kids.

Fact:
An estimated 100,000 kids a year die to Cancer.

just so you know, I probably wouldn't bother as there are national databases out there already for this, especially ones that major hospitals and even the government hosts. Not trying to shoot you down, but unless you are planning on doing something different than them or adding something other than the database, then it probably isn't worth your time.

Also, you will need to learn database programming to do a database. some things like sql, access, and more.

Don't stop thinking of these kind of ideas though. :)
