Aside from practice what is (in your opinion.) the best way to learn a programming language?

For me it's writting code on paper. Helps me to slow down and really think about what I'm doing.

Write a program and fix your bugs should any arise. Post it in forums and ask questions to your peers if stuck.

even if they are not related to programmming they sharpen intuition which is very helpful in programming
