How does social media store their data?

how does the social media like Facebook store people's post and comment, and the friend list?

https://atscaleconference.com/ The @Scale conference is where the heavy lifters (and startups alike) talk about their challenges, from data to not-Silicon-Valley consumers. The conference site only goes back to 2016, but there are plenty of earlier videos you can just search for using, e.g., "atscale facebook".

There is no general rule. But many companies blog about their tech stack. Large web companies often adopt NoSQL solutions. For friends graph databases are a natural fit. But that doesn't mean more traditional tools wouldn't work.
