Why would you compare yourself with coder next door?

Learning and mastering any skill could be compared to swimming. You cannot swim if you do not know where the other end of the swimming pool is. When you compare yourself to others is like a moving "swimming pool's end": you never have a sense of accomplishment and in turn have a constant feeling of uncertainty. That would be like swimming in the open sea with sharks as your swimming contestants.

You should set your own personal goals, as well as standard based on best practices, but not based on other people's performance or how expert they "look".
You are the only one who knows your way and your destination.
