Do I have to go to college if I want to be an IT expert / software engineer or a developer ? Will I get hired if I don't?
(I'm really hoping an answer from this community ) I really want to be a programmer , web developer . I just really think that going to college is a waste of time because they don't really teach skills but rather theories. but all of my friends and families says otherwise .

Practical skill and theory are like two sides of a balance. Harness both. People think they are independent factors, but in reality the two complements each other. It is a matter of when and where practical skill and theory can be deployed for your benefit. Each has its field of use, and neither one is "better" than the other, only "more suitable" in particular circumstances.

You don't have to go to college, but it certainly helps. Sadly we live in a world where certification counts more than skill, so you'll have a harder time finding a job without a degree. But if you're good you should still be able to get a good job in the software industry. You just need to build a decent portfolio and convince interviewers of your skills.

@Jan especially in Germany there are trainings provided by companies. These are completely different than getting degrees from a university. But without a certificate of training or a academic degree your chances should be very bad all over the world. And no, Sololearn does not count as certificate of training even it is good for learning.
