British spelling vs American spelling: is one preferred over the other in coding?

As an Australian, I use British English spelling. Pretty much all codes I've seen so far have used American spelling for words like 'colour,' 'centre,' etc.

-Is American English the default spelling when coding?

-Do British English users stick to British English (whether working solo or doing a joint coding project with American English users)?

-Do any coding languages recognise different spellings?

I'm wondering if I should get into the habit of switching to American spelling when writing codes...

Yes petty much, as so many languages were developed in the USA, most favorable​b American spelling. So anything with built in objects​ or properties will likely use American spelling. If you make your own variables or objects​ you can use what ever names like.
