Why developers hate design patterns?

in a entreprises, developers always start a war with their projects managers when they advice them to use design patterns, why! ?

In my experience the design phase rarely consults with the developers and it would often be best of they did. Development is an integrated process and input from the devs could save time for the user by slightly different designs. Or save time developing the project itself.
