Simply by understanding the basics of algorithm design.

Try to have better understanding of calculating the time complexities.Understand some best designed algorithms. Try to solve some most studied problems on your own, Then start practicing from basic level. Start with worst solution, not a problem, calculate its complexity, Then understand that its not the best and try devise new strategy which may reduce the complexities. An infinite loop around this process could improve your design.
