Why dynamic programming is so important in competitive programming?

Hello,My name is Andrew and I am preparing for 2019 olympiad of computer science in my country.I am trying to solve all types of problems,but the dynamic programming ones are so hard to solve.Does anyone know why are these types of problems so important?Does someone know where I can learn to solve these types of problems?
