How to use Github ( what it’s used for,etc)

Hi all! I’m fairly new to coding and throughout my first year of college I took intro to CS classes that used Jupyter, Atom & the Mac terminal/ Windows powershell to run code however this summer I wanted to try to expand my horizon by using Github and VS CODE but I’m having a hard time navigating around using them. I love Atom because I can just use command + “i” to run whatever I input but it isn’t super helpful for things like line spacing errors which I heard VS Code & github are good at.
