Yeah, I was trying to stay away from the semantics debate of what-is-the-exact-definition of a database. Databases may be strictly tabular for some or anything that stores data for others. Otherwise, the safest answer is you can definitely do it without SQL. There's a whole bunch of people who get really excited about NoSQL.

he doesnt need a database for a dynamic website all he needs is a datastorage wich also can be a xml or a txt file.
