You can build models predicting the properties of certain nucleotide chains without having to build them for example. Or how would a certain mutation affect a nucleoprotein in question -- will it stop its reproduction or make it replicate even faster.

Look for a "Biology meets Programming" course on Coursera.org. It's an exact answer to your question.

When I was a PhD student I use to screen nucleotide libraries a lot. Molecular biology and genetics nowadays are all about bioinformatics, aimed at screen genomic sequence of various species to find the right nucleotides corresponding to your gene of interest. You can build predictive models to identify conserved sequences that, due to their conservation among species, could be important genes or regulatory regions. On these sequence you can design primers for the most various application, for instance gene expression analysis or also Chromatin Immunoprecipitation.

Lots of genetic data, either GWAS data or sequencing data, is big. And it has been for many years. Moreover, many geneticists are also statisticians. The fields of statistics and genetics grew up together, and it remains true that rigorous statistical methodology is more tightly embedded in the genetics (in particular the human genetics) community than it is in other areas of biology. For example, statistics is used to identify loci that contribute to disease and other phenotypes; to identify causal variants within those loci; to identify genes harboring rare, high-penetrance variants that contribute to disease; to characterize the overall genetic architecture of traits; to analyze evolutionary patterns; to analyze human origins. https://crbtech.in/programmes/clinical-research-training-programme
