Must someone's degree be in computer science or related courses to be able to work as a programmer?

Yes & No, this depends on different company’s requirements strictness, when applying to a new company you’ll have to prove that you can program(projects you’ve worked on), but sometimes you’re already in an IT company but not in Dev department, you can demonstrate your skills by solving the current problems they have.

From my own history - experience and coding skills are far more important than a degree.

Most vacancy ads I see prefer related degree, though still, a few describes skill requirements and welcome other major graduates, given they posses the necessary skills. Note that I don't know how it is outside, what I tell is how it is in my country.

I don't think that degree is must for a programmer because programmers learn every time and every day. It depends upon your work. Your output. But I also admit that having a degree will get u more chances of job as compared to non-degree programmer.

I think not necessary. We have to learn all the time. This is the main thing. But it can be difficult (by himself). Good luck to you! :)

Some people are very successful without a degree. But long term and overall, the chances of being reasonably successful in a CS related job is higher if you have a CS related degree. This can be acquired later in your life though, and some companies help their staff with their masters degree.

A degree is not necessary at programmer level, as long as you have the skills. However, a degree is really helpful to get access to a wider choice of jobs and companies, or to progress to the next level of your career.
