Difference between script and program?

Question

I read a lot more about python/js scripts than, say, c++ or java scripts and, equivalently, a lot more c++/java programs. My thoughts are than in a program there is some kind of compilation involved, while in scripts aren't. But maybe the difference is merely based on size, hence my confusion. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
