Data i/o streams // binary files

Question

I have this java assignment that I need to let the user enter data or display data from an existing file. And I’m struggling with how to display data from an existing file? Please does anybody know how I can do that? :( I’m using DataOutputStream and DataInputStream I used the appending parameter so the user can read the previous entered data but it’s not working
