What makes us efficient and smarter?

Question

Initially, we were just starters. But, as time goes by, some of us become more mature and smarter and more efficient. What do you think what makes them to be so??

Actually as my professor in high school said "as we get older, we are getting dumber😁". When we were babies we learned a lot in such a short time. Now, after +20 years I struggle to learn some basic programming concepts, and when I learn them then I am like "that was easy, why it took me so long to understand it...".
Anyway the question is philosophical and not much related to programming problems.

Practice and experience, the crystallization of these experiences in our memory and the reduction in time of accessing this information.
