Why do people copy other's code?

For example in new year many people copied firework and counter animation, I don't understeand why. Do they want upvotes for a code isn't theirs or what do you think?

This should be asked as "why does sololearn provide 'save as' button?"

Because they can. Every code posted on this platform is OPEN SOURCE and we are all free to manipulate it, copy it, declare it as ours, learn from it, or even share it further. I absolutely agree with you: some of the consequences can be completely disappointing, and others, should make you proud of what you wrote. Good code will get copied. I would like to think it's for easy access, and not for taking the credit (in fact, I'm sure very little people do specifically this). Or, as I stated before, simply to keep it as a gem or to study it. (Now back to that "steal" tag for the question... do you still think it really is that? :P)

Sadly, there's not much we can do about people who specifically want credit for something they didn't make at all. Mainly, it's a matter of education; they either don't care or just can't see what they are dealing with. They won't be mature enough, and they are also taking advantage of people who don't know the code has been copied for the purpose. You can always (unfairly) take the time to warn those people whenever you properly spot them. Nothing is better than the very own creator letting them know how poor their behaviour is. Maybe that should help most of the time!

I know it is not really stealing because is public but the intention is similar when they want to get credit for something they didn't make at all. And of course if it's for learning or you just like to have it you could have it in private I guess.

Last but not least! The inverted question mark has revealed to me that you are probably a native spanish speaker. Remember, those don't exist in english, hehe. Y, saludos desde Argentina. Se ve que eres buena programadora!

I am not condoning copying. However, everyone should know we are not suppose to re-invent the wheel. Re-using code is what we are taught to do - innovation is key and in my opinion a good programming practice. Also, this is the place to share such things. So, why not replicate what is being shared for learning purposes. 🤔🤔🤔

If people copy the code for studying without making it public I don't mind at all. I think everyone has done this at some point,me included. However,if they copy and claim credit for something they didn't make this is really immature and tantamount to stealing. I personally downvote any code that is stolen and doesn't give credit to the original developer.
