ok, I was doing just fine learning HTML until it got to this API stuff! Does anyone else feel like there's a large gap here?

Question

Lost it in the "API" sections of HTML! And it states that some JavaScript knowledge is necessary to understand. So, why is the information covered but not explained in a way that helps the student understand? Is it me or did anyone else find themselves lost and scratching thier head at these?
