How do you get more xp in languages without challenges?

Question

Soooo, in the leaderboard (of the web version), there were people who got 1000 in languages (like CSS) that don't have options for challenging. What I don't get is that how did they get that much xp in that?

I believe writing code and such give you xp as well.
