Well when ignoring game hacks, I think programming could give you understanding for example if the game laggs, you would have more knowledge about why it laggs.

You can make mods(for sims for example).I think that for sims 4 its done in python and for earlier versions in c something, I'm not sure which c but it's probably c++

You can also get living with programming, so you could buy new games and better gaming devices if you learned programming. I have some feel that gaming would anyways have more advantages in programming (but also disadvantages), as I've read an article which told that surgeons, that had gaming background, did their job 30% faster (in average) than surgeons, that didn't have gaming background and thus I think gaming would also have some good effects in programming, (even though gaming might often be treated as bad thing).
