I love Python for speed. it is easy to get ideas out of my head and it is clean to understand complex things.. I also prefer it when I just need a personal utility.

when it's time to write an actual piece of software, I like Java..

I don't have a favorite, I am glad I am learning them both. If I was trying to teach one of my kids, I am going straight for Python, but I would look forward to the day I help them transition to Java
