How challenge points are calculated?

Question

I've noticed that when I get a challenge (Java mostly) I can see the reward: "The winner will get 2 points" but if I lose, I lost about 27 points and if I win I get the 2 points. That's unfair in my opinion.
Can you explain how that system works?
