Superscript and subscript are different in the positioning.
Superscript makes text small and positions it at the top of the line, for example when you write 2^3 in mathematics the 3 would be in superscript.
Similarly subscript makes the text small and positions it at the bottom of the line, for example when you write out H2O in chemistry the 2 would be in subscript.
